Private courtyards provide ventilation, shade, and enclosed open-to-sky space. The antechamber to the courtyard is a transition area to the street.
A simple method of construction can generate jobs for unskilled people. The use of local materials, like wood and loam, will support the local economy. Color, out of organic pigment, is the cheapest available ornament. Architectural richness is
not expensive, and standardization does not have to mean monotony. In small homes, fully occupied by family members, having a place to meet and talk is essential. Therefore it needs a community center, to gather support and information.
